Glen Boss Charges into 2010! - 11.01.2010

Glen Boss expects to charge into 2010 with plenty of fanfare at Flemington on Friday, the champion jockey going to headquarters with an outstanding book of rides on New Year’s Day.

Boss rides the favourite Grand Destiny in the $150,000 Bagot Handicap (2800m) and second favourite Beltrois in the $200,000 Standish Handicap (1200m), the traditional features on the Flemington card celebrating the beginning of a new calendar year.

In great form with seven city winners and four provincial winners in December, a month interrupted by illness and injury that cost him further winners, Boss has climbed to sixth on the metropolitan premiership with 17 wins and 12th on the state wide premiership with a total of 34 wins. He is second on the Group 1 table with three wins this season.

New Year’s Day will kick off with Boss riding the nominal favourite Winged Charm for the high-flying Mick Kent stable. She won at Caulfield in mid-December and then was nosed out at Caulfield on Boxing Day.

Boss has four rides for Kent at Flemington. As well as Winged Charm, he rides Grand Destiny, Starmon and Sadalbari.

Grand Destiny is a last start Flemington winner over 2000m and is primed for the Bagot. Starmon is a former Kiwi mare having her second start for the trainer, having made her Australian debut with a recent fifth at Moonee Valley.

Sadalbari is an exciting prospect, having won three of his last four starts. Boss rode him in an authoritative win at Flemington on December 12 and the five-year-old was more dominant at Caulfield last Saturday in the Lord Stakes (1800m).

Beltrois is a progressive sprinter, who followed an unlucky fourth at Moonee Valley first-up with a brave win at Flemington on December 12 down the straight course. He is again weighted down on the limit with 53kg.
